- The Lanzarote Sessions
This is the second of the seventh series of Lanzarote Sessions, transcribed during a break to the Canary Island in September 2024. During our frequent visits I sit in the power of spirit at least once every day and allow the spirit connect to share a message with me.

We live in a ‘woke’ society where saying what you think has to conform with the so-called ‘woke’ movement. Gone are the days of tutors being able to say it as it is.
Everyone is trying too hard not to say something that might offend or be taken the wrong way for fear of being thought of as tough and offensive. I recall one of my tutors at The Arthur Findlay College, a lady filled with passion for her craft and someone who said it straight. I got told the truth by her, many times, and it helped me to grow and become better at mediumship. Do I think any the less of her? Absolutely not. I hold great respect for her to this day.
Tough love, as this session’s speaker calls it, is becoming uncommon. Yet it shouldn’t be. Every student needs the best guidance and straight answers. Forget the ‘woke’ phrases and the flowery ways of putting things for fear of offending. Say it straight and make the point. I’m not in any way suggesting bullying or aggression in teaching. I’m suggesting more direct honesty. It’s the way our parents often are with us, so why not the teachers too.
I have a good friend that I converse with over a distance. He is a student of this work with the spirit. When he asks me a question, I give a straight answer, especially if it refers to his own unfoldment. It’s how I would expect to be taught and frankly, the best way to learn. My speakers in the spirit know I prefer straight-talking and in this session, I get just that!
I believe that the reason some people suggest they cannot learn from their own higher spirit, or those in the spirit world, is because of their own honesty filters. They cannot be honest with themselves in life, so there’s little chance they’ll allow the other side to be.
- POSTSCRIPT
I refer to the all-too-common phrase ‘woke’ in the above preamble. In my experience, the spirit world don’t have such nonsense amongst them.
THE SPIRIT INSIGHT

You’re back, excellent. Same rules as before. Any errors you cross out. Don’t take those valuable seconds erasing them. Listen to my words, write them as I say them and let’s get going.
As you’ve noticed, I’m the same speaker as before the last time. Sorry, that was my mistake. Thank you. You’ll notice I don’t mince words. I don’t believe in wrapping people up in cotton does little of use, only to pamper to their desires to feel good.
There’s a phrase you use called tough love. The clue is in the title. Tough with love, for the better of the student – in this case, you! Your people talk about the pioneers of yesteryear and make them out to be heroes. Trust me, they weren’t. They were just ordinary people devoted to what they loved. They never considered themselves as some kind of game changer or hero. To be considered pioneers would have made one or two of them laugh. I know all too well, because I was one of those that you would consider a pioneer.
But ask me if I enjoy being considered in such a role and I can’t help but laugh in response. When your people, and yourself, reflect on the good old days, you always do so with unclear eyes. We were doing nothing different, or nothing greater and better than many of you are doing now.
Those who want to consider themselves as pioneers, are doing so with the wrong notion of what their life is about. It’s not about pursuing dizzy heights of notoriety. Please give me strength.
Your path through life is, and always will be, unique to you. Nobody else will ever follow your footsteps exactly in your way. Everyone has their own unique path to take. Mine, yours, and the next one along the way.
I’m sorry, I got distracted momentarily. Life isn’t hard. You’ve been doing it long enough. But it is about fulfilment. Getting whatever you can from whatever challenges you face along the way. That’s what it’s all about.
I just gave you a vision of who I am. You wouldn’t have recognised me. But I am another fundamentally flawed person that just kept doing my best, as you should.
There was a time when people like you would have suffered from believing in one’s own self-importance. Let my lesson to you today be about getting your head down and learning to love everything, every moment of the day.
You’re falling asleep, so we must end for now. I will make an effort to return next time. Rest up and stop underestimating the value of sleep. You need more of it.
Good night.
MY AFTERTHOUGHTS
written at the time of this presentation
- This speaker suggests he was, in life, someone we would not consider a pioneer of this movement. I believe that one ingredient of a pioneer must be to achieve something that might be considered ground-breaking and advancing the movement. So many of the pioneers did, so few today do.
- The core message, though there could be more considered, is that we should focus on our growth in our own way and in our own timeframe. We should not be trying to compete with others, or setting our expectations of ourselves so high that we are permanently disappointed.
- There was an unexpected silence in my mind during the transcribing. I thought I’d lost focus. So it was comforting when the speaker apologised for being momentarily distracted away from me. It’s good to know that can happen both ways!
