How Sessions Are Achieved About The AfterthoughtsThe Star Rating

FOCUS REQUIRES FOCUS

THE PREAMBLE

This is the fifth session of the eighth series of Lanzarote Sessions, transcribed during a break to the Canary Islands in December 2024. During our frequent visits, I sit in the power of the spirit at least once daily and allow the spirit-connect to share a message with me.

|| This summary written on 23rd April 2025

As I’ve aged, I’ve become less able to focus on things for as long as I used to be able to. Like so many personal disciplines, if I don’t work on improving them, how are they ever going to improve?

Truth is, I get bored very quickly! I find this a lot when I listen, or watch mediumship related podcasts online. Speakers tend to waffle too much. I used to get criticised by many because I scripted the Spirited Talk podcasts. People said I should talk with passion and let my spirit direct the conversation. Those same critics are now producing online presentations and following their own beliefs. No scripts, no outlines, no notes, just rambling here and rambling there.

So I get bored listening to them and find myself wasting time skipping through their presentations to get to the crutze of what their points are. Some of the broadcasters act like they just love the sound of their own voice too much. I become bored too easily no doubt, I can’t deny that. But it’s not just with others I get bored. I get bored with myself too. As I am writing this, I have ITV 4 on the computer next to me. Magnum PI is showing. Normally, I have study music playing, but today, because I’m behind on my work schedule, I’m being distracted from my work.

The routine of having to transcribe a session with the spirit speakers every day whilst at Lanzarote, can be a drag. It’s a duty I believe I have to undertake. It’s a discipline I need to keep. I don’t believe I have a lack of focus when I’m in the actual process of writing their words. The speaker in this session, however, appears to suggest I do have a problem with my focus. Perhaps they’re correct and I’ve become complacent. But isn’t that the same for all of us?

Personal discipline is a problem we all suffer from. Why? Because it is left up to us to set the discipline. There’s nobody else telling us to read a book for ten minutes every day, or do the 5000 minimum steps for exercise, or to sit in the power several times every week, or blah blah blah! Don’t worry though, if we really do want to reset our discipline and reduce our drive to become bored too easily, the solution is simple. I say that like I’m some sort of expert and I’m not. It was this speaker in this session that helped me understand how to overcome my issues and reset my boredom levels. Easy when you know how!

Life is too short to be wasting time listening to something that promises so much and offers nothing. Life is too short to be wasting time reading a book that is not teaching us anything. Life is too short to keep believing someone else is going to help us, when the discipline is down to us. If we want to achieve more, it’s up to us to discipline ourselves and do the things that we need to do, rather than what we want to do.

THE SPIRIT INSIGHT

transcribed on Saturday, 14th December 2024, at 4:00 pm

I’m happy to talk to you. I’m aware that many of my friends here have used this means of communication in the past. They say it works well, but to keep an eye on your writing to make sure it is what we say.

You see, this is the thing about the mind, especially yours in the physical form. It is controllable. So many people just don’t learn the fundamental skills to do so.

I have been told that you have become a little less able to hold your focus as well as you once did. Well my friend, it’s like everything in the physical form, it takes exercising and consistency. The first condition, though, a desire to improve it.

As you should be aware, the word, desire, is another of those power-words. Its meaning is deeper than it appears. Most things in life, whether there on earth or in this next dimension start with a simple desire. A thought, a need, a dream, a desire.

Do you desire to be able to strengthen your focus? Excellent, that’s the starting point. Next is the [committment] stage. Again, another power-word. Can you appreciate the power within the meaning of commitment? [speaker tells me there is only one T in the middle of that word!].

To commit to something, such as strengthening your focus, requires you to focus on focusing. I like that. A bit of a collision of words, don’t you think?

I digress. How do we strengthen that focus then? The first, and most important requirement is to remove distractions. They are your enemies. Believe me, this is as much a problem for us as for you.

Distractions work better on a weak focussing mind. So once the focus is strengthened, the distractions became weaker. It’s a shift in balance you see.

Here is your first and strongest lesson. Do not give in to the distractions. At first, fight them and not let them win. Let them pass while increasing your mind focus.

This phrase is a good mantra to use:

“I will not give in to distractions. I have a strong focus.”

Can you see how that works? It shifts the power from a distraction to the focus.

When you master that simple technique, you will never have to worry about a lack of focus again. Good focus will improve your life. Not just for this work, but for many other tasks in life.

This is why so many people suggest they cannot focus for meditation. It is because they are too easily distracted, and distraction is the enemy.

Perhaps that mantra I gave you should be something you should write down and refer to. But there is one important thing to be aware of. When saying the words, never let them just become a sound. Make the words retain their meaning by, guess what? Focusing on them. You see how it works. Nothing hard. Its just about the desire, the commitment and the focus. What wins every time? The focus. Your focus.

Thank you for allowing me to share this lesson, especially for you. I know that many others will benefit from them as well and I’m honoured you’ve penned them for me.

Enjoy your holiday and get some rest.

Bye bye friend.

MY AFTERTHOUGHTS

written at the time of this presentation

🔷  I feel I want to defend myself a little here. Prioritising the time to sit for these transcriptions can be ‘testing’ at times, but when I do sit, my focus is pretty decent I believe. Okay, I can’t hold the focus required for as long as I used to be able to, but the spirit speakers know how far they can go with me, after all, they need the energy levels to work with me in. That said, the opening points relayed from this speaker are welcome.

🔷  There is a lot of simple, yet perfect, suggestions in this message. It was the simplicity of their words that resonated with me.  “Focus requires you to focus on focusing…” . What a simple, yet effective way of making the point. Focus isn’t a by-product, it’s a discipline, as the speaker suggests.

🔷   I’m quite a fan of mantras, sayings and phrases that left cement a point into the mind.  This speaker certainly understands the problem and offers great advice to help us overcome our own lack of discipline. I do wonder how many others are working on their own discipline though. From some of the content I’ve viewed online, these people could do with going back to school themselves!

“How do we strengthen that focus then? The first, and most important requirement is to remove distractions. They are your enemies.”

  1. I came across this sentence many years ago and I have used as a mantra and found it works very well when it comes to focusing my mind. It is “if it has to be, it’s down to me”. I have found reminding myself of this is the starting point of any undertaking builds commitment and clearly places the responsibility for achievement fairly and squarely on my shoulders. Although not a recipe for 100% success it is does help me to focus on a problem.
    Thanks for the article Trevor.
