THE PREAMBLE

This is the fourteenth session of the eighth series of Lanzarote Sessions, transcribed during a break to the Canary Islands in December 2024. During our frequent visits, I sit in the power of the spirit at least once daily and allow the spirit-connect to share a message with me.

|| This summary written on 25th May 2025

There is a vast difference between sticking with routines and avoiding change. The former, I do, the latter, I don’t. But in my mediumship, I do believe in rituals and routines.

I’ve always believed that having a ritual before performing a task sets my intention and narrows in my focus. I have rituals I follow when I’m using my tarot cards, before I meditate, before a reading, and of course, before I sit for messages through the pen.

The problem with the word ‘ritual’, it brings with it some mystical meaning of voodoo or black magic at work, On the contrary. My rituals are simple routines that I carry out most of the time before engaging in a related activity. I also believe that those working with us approve of such rituals or routines. It tells them what our intentions are, though some might suggest they probably already know!

From the viewpoint of any observer present at that time, a ritual suggests to them that this person is serious in their work and as long as it’s not something silly like the rituals of old ‘Dicky’ Bird, the cricketing umpire legend, or Rafael Nadal, the now retired tennis champion, most people accepts them. The first thing I do when I open my wooden tarot box is ring the small brass bell inside of it. It sets my intent, and I like to believe it calls those working with me in the spirit world informing them I need them closer to me.

The speaker in this session has a few words to say about such rituals and routines and gives some surprising, though not unexpected comments.

There will come a time in every student’s unfoldment when rituals and routines are no longer necessary as often, it at all. Until such time, I recommend using them during your work with spirit.

THE SPIRIT INSIGHT

transcribed on Monday 23rd December 2024, at 3pm

There was a longer length of time today between you asking and me connecting. I wanted you to stay a little longer in your power, so to build it more. I am aware that you are a firm believer in repeating the basics, so those few extra minutes helped.

We have noticed the great mediums your side of life and here don’t need to be reminded of those basic steps. They do them automatically without a second thought. Many of them have their own unique routines they complete as part of their connecting process.

Some rub their hands, as if they’re cold. That’s very common. I know a medium your side that insists on standing silent for a minute or so before she says anything. She calls it composing, but what she is actually doing is building the conditions, her power, and ticking all the boxes that tell her she is ready and connected. We admire that. It shows her dedication.

The funniest routine I have ever witnessed was a medium that insisted on jumping up and down a couple of times before he began forwarding the first communication. Though he didn’t tell anyone why he did it, we know he believed it established a firm connecting with the earth.

As we say, do what you deem necessary. These routines offer help us as well. Your prayer is always a good sign to us, and often we are waiting to hear it also.

If I could share one piece of advice to your new mediums it would be this: Create a routine that you are comfortable with, repeat it every time until it becomes second nature. What happens is it becomes woven into the structure of the opening routine and helps eleviate any doubts and nerves.

Your established mediums like to claim they don’t have routines when they connect with us, but we know differently.

I remember a well known medium that always kept a pen in his jacket top pocket. He knew it had to be there. One day in the middle of him channeling a message, his attention was drawn to his top pocket when he realised the pen was missing. It threw him and momentarily he believed he’d lost contact with the medium this side. He hadn’t, he just thought he had. Our medum was literally shouting” I’m still here, I’m still here” before he recovered and continued. But that just illustrates how his ritual had become an important part of his routines.

The simple truth is, routines are not essential, but the benefits appear to work for the medum. Confidence and conditioning. you might call it.

I do hope you keep up your own routines. They work for you and that is all that matters.

Time you had a little rest.

I’ve enjoyed this lesson, and I hope you and your readers do too. We are with you – always.

Goodbye

MY AFTERTHOUGHTS

written at the time of this presentation

🔷  As always when I add these summary points to a session presentation, I grade them as fairly as I think they deserve. In this one, although the words are from the speaker connected with me, for the biggest part I agreed with their words. That means much of the message aligns with my personal opinions. That further means my mind could, though I don’t believe so, could have influenced what I wrote. I wouldn’t deliberately do that, but reflecting back on the notes, some one hundred days or more later, I have to remain true to the work I do.

🔷  I was intrigued as to what medium the speaker might be referring to with regards to always having a pen in his jacket top pocket. I did a little research on the internet and couldn’re really find anything relevant. Hardly the sort of detail you’d find in a search engine. However, I did find out that the James Bond author, Ian Fleming, always had to have his favourite fancy fountain pen in his jacket pocket and would go nowhere without it!

🔷 I also believe that, although I believe in routines prior to an event, I have often undertaken the event without following my ritual. Did it effect my results? Probably, I was still rubbish!
