This is my 2025 updated and detailed summary about automatic and inspired writing, the differences, how I do it and how you can too.

CLICK: IMPORTANT ADVICE

automatic v inspired writing

The question of defining the differences between automatic and inspired writing is not as easy as one would be led to believe. Some purists would consider the methods as completely separate methods, while others suggest that any writing influenced by someone in the spirit world could be considered as automatic. Neither opinions are entirely correct, or entirely wrong, in my opinion!

It is my option that both methods are similar, if not the same. The factor that varies is regarding the depth of the writer’s connection with the other source. we call the spirit world. To understand better, take a look at this basic diagram below.

The yellow line depicts the depth of focus on the conscious mind, the left side being ordinary consciousness state and the right  side being when an altered state of mind has been achieved. This is not hairy-fairy stuff, it’s fact. When we concentrate our focus, we change the state of our mind’s vibration. A few moments sitting in silence with an inward focus on our breathing will move our state of mind, using the chart, further towards the right. Scientifically speaking, when in a state of meditation or focus, we are moving our normal mind from the beta vibrational state, towards the alpha vibrational state.

Everyone changes their vibrational state to some small extent during an average day. It may be when focusing on driving in heavy traffic, listening to something interesting on a radio, reading a book, or preparing an important letter. All of these activities require more focus in the mind and therefore effect the vibrational state in varying amounts. We’ve all been guilty of saying aloud, “be quiet for a minute, I’m concentrating” That concentration is nothing more than sharpening the focus of the mind and getting rid of the outside distractions.

All mind mediumship involves this adjustment of focus to happen and some people are better trained to reach the state of mind required quicker than others.

Take a minute or so now to think how many times this day you have adjusted your focus intensity. I would not be surprised if you could name at least a dozen times. Examples: cleaning your teeth, finding suitable clothes for the day, making tea or coffee, listening to media outlets, driving or cycling, securing your property as you left it, reading your email, walking on an uneven or slippery surface, and many more such occasions.

Shifting the mind’s focus, as you can now understand, is nothing more than normal activity. With intensive and deliberate effort, the degree of shift in the mind can be significant. As you are reading this, your mind is focused and you might have already cleared your mind of the outside distractions, the traffic, the noises of the house etc.  As I write this, my mind is significantly focused on the purpose at hand and distractions around me are ‘blurred’ into the background.

We’re all creative to some degree in something we’re passionate about. Writing poems, drawing, fishing, painting, DIY, cooking and so on. When we’re involved in the activities, we’re less aware of distractions. Mediums have learnt to overcome distractions and ready themselves for their connecting purposes. The more they are focused, the better their connection reception. This is why most mediums are extremely sensitive to loud noises. The writer that demands a quiet space, an outside shed as a studio, or place they can work does so for the purpose of their own concentrated focus. The same is true of the meditator, the healer, the surgeon, the artist. They need to maintain a specific focus to achieve their craft.

automatic (physical) spirit writing

Automatic writing, in the traditional sense of the meaning is a rare anomily in our modern times. This happens when there is no interaction whatsoever from the medium. The writing has occurred without any manual intervention and has taken place from another source, such as those in the spirit world.

In seances, specifically held for physical evidence purposes, the visitors from the other world can manipulate chalk, pencils, and any other impliments present, to write a message on a medium such as paper, slate (as was used in the past), and even electronic devices, such as a media tablet or computer.

The likelihood is that a medium is present and is sat in an altered state of mind in order for the visitor to work. However, there are always exception to the rule and one such example was share by medium and tutor, Elaine Davies, to me and the other students present.

Elaine explained how she had been in her bed, reading on her ipad, before placing it on her bedside cabinet and falling asleep. In those last few moments, she’d been thinking of her father who had recently passed over to the spirit world.

In the morning when she awoke, Elaine picked up her iPad and was surprised to find a message written on the basic note app that she didn’t even know was on the tablet. It was open on the screen and read words to the effect,

I am alive and I will always love you. Dad.”

For Elaine, this is indisputable evidence and an excellent example of pure automatic writing. This phenomena was common in the older times when people had more time to sit in the parlour and give more time to the presence of spirit. Research on the internet will reveal many exciting examples of words and messages written directly by another force, without the hands of a living human. Because the act happens without direct human touch being involved, this form of automatic would not appear on my example spectrum graph. (above)

why I call spirit-inspired writing automatic?

Spirit-inspired writing, such as that which I have been publishing on this website and other places for a number of years, could be loosely considered as automatic and a mediumship skill. Let me explain why.

Mediums have trained to allow a portion of their mind to be used by those from the other source to use. The spirit connects through energy to the sub-conscious mind of the medium and ‘plants’ the seeds to a message or communication they are wishing to relay.

Several factors determine how ‘pure’ or clear that message is interpretated by the medium. This is largely determined by either the experience of the medium , or by how well attuned to the process they are on that occasion.

Using our example spectrum graphic, the more focused the mediums mind is, the further to the right their state of mind would be. To achieve this focus, for inspired writing or mediumship, one must learn to let go of regular thoughts and to become focused, by observing without reacting. Honestly, some people might try for a lifetime without having the required discipline to achieve this level of inner focus, while others appear to be able to achieve the required state in a matter of minutes.

Staying with mediumship, all mediums should be regularly sitting in meditation and working on understanding their higher/ Inner self. There are, of course, always exceptions to the rule and some mediums may be born with an advanced awareness of the spirit world. A lifetime spent using their gift makes their mediumship more naturally forthcoming.

The intention of any good medium is to be able to adjust their state of mind to one condusive with their needs. The secret is in the practising, more practising, a lot of failing, much learning and ample adjustments.

A few mediums are able to give more than average of their conscious mind to their connection with the spirit world. This is commonly termed as” going deeper”. Their minds becomes more altered, or entranced, and this allows the spirit communicators access to their mind, and occasionally, their voice. Without going into too much detail, good trance mediumship is not so rare these days, and can be insightful when witnessed.

At the far right of our spectrum I would place deep trance writing, considered by some experts as automatic writing. The writer, most definitely a medium, is in a deep state of altered consciousness, in a trance state where they have handed much of the control of their mind to the spirit person connecting through them. In this state, the spirit connect is able to control and influence the pen being loosely held by the medium. The medium has little control over the pen and could even have their eyes closed during the writing.

By the way, spirit art is also possible in this state. An example of one of the finest art mediums of modern days is Lynn Cotterell. She is able to hand control of her pencil or brushes entirely to the spirit person connecting through her. There are some amazing examples of this in action with Lynn on YouTube. Her influence on what is drawn, often using both hands at the same time, is minimal and is remarkable to witness. Proof, if ever needed, that powers beyond.-human’s own mind exists and ready to be used.

Because the degree of focus or altered state of mind varies (as shown by the slope on the graphic above), which is determined by the medium’s experience at achieving the states, the clarity of the connection with the spirit world does differ from one person to another and from one session to another.

Some mediums may not be aware of the state of their mind for connecting and may be able to automatically receive messages without any preparation. Other mediums may want to spend some time to get into the correct state of mind for their mediumship.

Before starting to transcribe the words I hear in my mind, I have a routine I follow which includes spending a few minutes adjusting the state of my mind ready for a connection. I also have set rules that include not having any ideas or notions as to what the subject of the message will be. I only know a few words of the transcription at any given moment and never try to predict or fill-in for the speaker. I’ll explain the full process in the next section which might help you realise why I am happy to call my spirit-inspired transcriptions as automatic.

my process for spirit-inspired writing

Before starting to transcribe the words I hear in my mind, I have a routine I follow which includes spending a few minutes adjusting the state of my mind ready for a connection. This includes an opening praye, usually The Lord’s Prayer. This is followed with me making a request for those that are working with me in the spirit world, to draw their energy closer and  prepare to connect whenever they, and I are ready. I ask for the speaker to share a message containing help, advice, upliftment and of course love. I don’t suggest any topics normally, though there has been occasion where I’ve been fostering a question that I am seeking help with.

I finish my request with a final instruction that I am about to sit in the power for a few minutes to clear and quieten my mind, and that whoever is coming forward to speak, makes their presence known loud and clear, that I may know they are there and waiting. I then remain silent in mind and focus inwardly with no preconcieved ideas or expectations. Occasionally, my mind tries to mimic a speaker by creating the impression of a speaker being ready. Through practice and experience, I’ve learnt to know when this is happening and to ignore while continuing the silent focus.

The speaker’s presence comes in the form of a repeating phrase, a loud salutation, or even a piece of well-known random music coming to into my mind. In the few seconds that follow, I pick up my writing impliment, which in most cases is a stylus, followed by me switching on the writing device (currently a Kindle Scribe) to the titled and blank notepad that is to be used for this session. The next step is difficult to put into instructional words, however I will try. When we turn a tap on, we never know what the water is going to come out like at first. There are a few milliseconds where we have to adjust the flow. We doing this without thought. That is how I start transcribing. I write an opening salutation, or the phrase, words, or song title I had in my mind.

Immediately, the connection strengthens with the speaker and a one-way conversation begins. All I do is write what I hear, usually only a few words at a time, though a constant flow. The spirit world are intelligent and know what process I am using to record their words, so the speakers tend to speak slowly enough for me to transcribe word-for-word. If I make an error, the speaker tells me! They’re not concerned with spelling, unless they choose to spell a specific word that I’m unfamiliar with.

Here is the most important aspect of this method. The speaker is speaking normally, in other words, as we all speak. That is rarely grammatically correct, or in sentences that make entire sense. The majority of the time, their message makes complete sense and reads well. But occasionally, their messages read ‘awkwardly’ written, though translate to voice better. When we read, we do so differently than we speak and during reading our brains do a lot of interpreting and predicting. This is why I would encourage people that read the sessions, or write their own, to take the time to read the notes back aloud.

Paragraphs are usually down to me to add during the transcribing. I sense where a paragraph is needed by the gaps in the conversation. I do often adjust these when I produce the website versions, for cosmetic reasons only. The same is so with spelling errors I’ve made during the transcribing process. Messages flow better without me spending time adjusting and correcting as I go. My role is to dictate their words, as fast as I possibly can.

I tend to know when a session must end. My energy or focus becomes weaker and the speaker knows that too. The speaker draws the session to a close and often ends with a simple goodbye or last short message. Once the speaker stops, I hear no more and then know the session is closed. Believe it or not, I don’t retain much of what was said to me. When I close the notepad, it is over and the message is now history! The message doesn’t get read again until I create the website presentation days, weeks, and often months later, by which time the message appears fresh to me.  More on the presentation process in the next section.

the presentation process

As mentioned above, this usually happens some time after the original transcribing happened. Firstly, every session is filed in chronological order and every one is used in that order, no matter how good or bad I might feel they are. Nothing is excluded. This work isn’t tested in the same way as a reading would be. There are no other parties involved. But that doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be scrutinised as with vocal mediumship. To make sure the reader is reading everything as it was transcribed I deliberately make no adjustments, other than correcting spelling errors.

The more time I’ve spent doing this, the more I’ve come to realise that the gap in time between the original transcription and the public presentation makes no difference whatsoever. In fact, on occasions, the message fits better to the reader when it is presented. The messages are rarely time bound, in the same way that reading Silver Birch transcriptions are as relevant today as they were when the medium transcribed them decades ago. The message is always in the sentiments and meaning within it.

Now for the technical stuff! The Kindle Scribe from Amazon has a few useful features that nowadays help with this work. The first action I take is to choose the folder that contains the original notebooks. There are always named by date, day, and time order. For the series of Lanzarote Sessions, the order number is placed at the front of the title. For example, a file might be named “01-070625-1208-SAT”. From that title. you and I know that the notebook was created as the first, on Saturday 7th June 2025 at 12:08pm. This was originally chosen as the notebook was prepared moments before the original transcribing session.

The Kindle Scribe has a useful feature that allows a notebook to be exported via email as both a pdf version of the original notebook, as transcribed with the stylus, and as a .txt file, converted during this export process. It’s not 100% accurate, though depending on the state of the writing, it is usually 90%+ accurate. These exported files are downloaded from the received email and stored in the appropriate folder system I use for this work, on a hard drive system I use.

When I’m ready to prepare a session for the website, I open the exported text file and correct any errors, remove any additional text, such as the page numbers, and resave the text file for my use. I have designed a wordpress template that I use for the presentation. That is why the presentations are alway following the familiar design.  The rest of the process for presenting the transcribed session are irrelevant to this issue, except to explain the ‘Afterthoughts’ section. This is made up of three key points I want to highlight from the transcribed message. Bear in mind that the session feels new to me, because a period of time has passed since writing the original message from spirit.

Finally, I pick a line from the session that resonates with me the strongest and most poignant. The process of creating the individual presentation takes around 2 hours which when added to the original transcribing time adds up to around 3 hours work in total. That said, I don’t see it as work. I see it as a duty and pleasure to be able to relay messages this way from the wonderful speakers from the spirit world.

Example of Mind Talk At Beginning Of Spirit-Inspired Writing

First – I speak loudly in my mind reciting The Lord’s Prayer, focusing with intent on every word.

This is followed with my words to the spirit kingdom, that go something like the following:

” MY DIVINE SPIRIT, AND THOSE WORKING WITH ME IN THE WORLD WHERE PEOPLE IN SPIRIT RESIDE…
I RETURN THIS TIME TO JOIN THE POWER THAT UNITES OUR TWO WORLD, FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRANSCRIBING A MESSAGE…
I ASK THAT A SPEAKER COME CLOSER TO ME AND RELAY THEIR MESSAGE THROUGH MY PEN…
I WILL DICTATE YOUR WORDS WITHOUT USING MY DAILY MIND…
ALLOW ME A SHORT TIME TO ATTUNE BEFORE YOU ANNOUNCE YOUR OPENING MESSAGE TO GET MY ATTENTION..
I WILL NOW SIT IN SILENCE AND AWAIT YOUR PRESENCE.”

That is it! I sit in the power and wait for the sign that someone wishes to come forward and speak to me.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SPIRIT-INSPIRED WRITING?

With a specific desire to connect and hear from the spirit world, around 20 years or thereabouts. My early efforts weren’t very good and I had no system, process or experience. The notes were initially just a lot of rambling, probably from my mind and lacking any evidence of it being from anything other than my mind, or my higher self.

IS MEDITATION PRACTICE ESSENTIAL?

For me, yes. I became aware of the presence of spirit at the age of forty, so I have a lifetime of habits and traits that need to be overcome. Mediation practice was an essential part of my unfoldment. The benefits, apart from working with the spirit world, have improved my life in many ways. I’ve never understood why some people suggest they don’t need to meditate. Usually their reasons are actually the reasons they should!

SHOULD ALL MEDIUMS MEDITATE BEFORE CONNECTING TO THE SPIRIT WORLD?

This is where many people get confused. The two activities are separate. Meditation helps set the state of mind, but not necessarily for connecting to spirit. It’s a personal pursuit that helps establish the correct frame of mind. I don’t always meditate before giving a reading or sitting for spirit. Meditation practice has allowed me to understand how the spirit world use me for connecting to. The more practice someone has, the easier recognising spirit becomes.

HOW LONG DO I SIT IN MEDITATION BEFORE COMMENCING SPIRIT-INSPIRED WRITING?

The length of time varies, depending on my state of mind at that time. If I’m over-active in mind, I may need longer. Other times, not so long. On average I would estimate 5-10 minutes nowadays, though this has shortened to what it used to be. Originally, I would have a full 30-45 sitting for spirit work. Over the years, as I have become more attuned through the unfoldment, shorter lengths of time are required for meditation purposes when working with the spirit world.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A TRANSCRIBED MESSAGE FROM THE SPIRIT CONNECTED?

At the time of writing this, I would estimate each session lasts between 20-45 minutes. No two are the same length and the length is usually determined by how long my energy stays aligned enough for the spirit person. When I first began this work, a session would be no more than 5 minutes of writing. So, over time, I have learned to sustain the energy levels for longer.

WHO IS ‘TESTING’ MY WORK?

Me at first! I believe in higher standards of mediumship and would never profess to being a great medium. But, I am completely honest with myself and what I do. I relay that trust to the readers by allowing all the evidence to be scrutinised. Because direct personal messages are difficult to relay ‘live’ during my writing sessions, the spirit people know to avoid one-to-one messages for people not present at that moment in time. However, there have been occasions where I’ve transcribed their words for someone they know will be reading the presentation later. These incidents often get a positive response from the recipient.

WOULD I BE ABLE TO TRANSCRIBE A MESSAGE SPOKEN IN A LANGUAGE I DON’T UNDERSTAND?

One day, I hope to get to the level of depth required where that may become possible. At this time, although my mind is in an altered state in the trance region, it’s not deep enough to be independant of my ‘daily’ mind. Research on the internet will bring back examples of mediums who have been able to relay communications from the spirit world in a different language than the one they are familiar with. It’s rare nowadays, but not impossible.

DO I EVER DO SPOKEN TRANCE, RATHER THAN WRITTEN?

Yes quite frequently. I have a ‘cabinet’ in my office/sanctuary and I enjoy sitting in there with a recorder and allowing the spirit connected to speak through me. I do this for my own growth and not for public reasons, hence why I don’t share the recordings publically. From my humble experience, I have found that speaking words leaves time for the ‘daily’ mind to interact more than when focused on listening and transcribing. I try to avoid my own input and anything that might lead to it, hence one of the reasons I don’t make my private trance session recordings available to the public.

HOW DO I KNOW EXACTLY WHEN A SPEAKER IS CONNECTED TO ME?

The speaker’s opening line is often catchy, punchy and attention-grabbing. It repeats several times, telling me the speaker is ready to begin. Occasionally, a random song or lyric may come to mind. Again, I instinctively know that it was placed in my mind by the connected speaker.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMETHING OR SOMEONE INTERRUPTS ME DURING A TRANSCRIBING SESSION?

It happens! Even the weather can drag my mind back to reality. Recently, I published a session in which a loud outburst of thunder broke my focus and temporarily I lost the speake. My own experience allowed me to recover the connection fairly easily and quickly. My partner is always made aware that I am about to commence a writing session. She knows to be careful with noise and movement during the time I’m doing the session. But it happens, and that’s life!

WHY DO I WRITE, RATHER THAN TYPE EACH SESSION?

Because I’m one of those that still enjoys creating my own words with a pen or stylus, rather than a keyboard. Also, I can write pretty fast. The faster I write, the less legible it becomes and the harder it is to translate to digital typeform. Modern technology, particularly the Amazon OCR software is very good compared with early versions. I gain a lot of pleasure from writing on my Kindle Scribe, with endless amounts of pages and a consistently good stylus that feels like a pen. The outline of this entire article was draft written on the Scribe during a recent visit to Lanzarote.

HAS ANYONE I KNOW EVER COME THROUGH FOR A WRITING SESSION?

Yes, several times. The problem with this though is proving their presence to the scrutinising public. I don’t openly encourage such connections, however, when they happen, I feel honoured and grateful to hear from them. Examples include, Glyn Edwards, Gordon Higginson, Joan Dunbar and my own Father. All that matters is not whether I can evidentially prove it was them, but I have received their words. I have transcribed a few messages from people who were well known when they were on this planet living. It was during the research after the session that I discovered who they were. Why shouldn’t they use such an opportunity to have their voice heard? I don’t have any egotistical led reasons for doing this work.

CAN I DETECT THE SPEAKER’S PERSONALITY?

Absolutely, every time. Some are quiet in their words while others are loud in expression. Some use humour a lot, some are laid back, others are concise and to the point. Joan Dunbar, for example, was a mentor to me twenty years ago before she passed. When she spoke to me with the pen, she used phrases that I’d long forgot were associated with her presonality. She still called me her ‘laddy’! She shared evidence as well and advice she wanted me to take seriously and work on.

WHY DON’T I GET THE SPEAKER’S NAME AND MORE DETAILS?

I keep my mind free and don’t allow ‘blocking’ questions to get in the way. If the speaker wants to share their name, or a bit about their life on earth, it is up to them to tell me, not me to ask. Their names are often irrelevant for this type of mediumship. I rarely even know what genre they were, unless they specifically tell me.

HOW DOES THE VOICE SOUND IN MY MIND?

It’s, more often than not, my own mind voice. How does your mind voice sound? Have you taken time to listen to it? The spirit world rarely relay messages to each other using an actual physical voice. They don’t need to, in a world constructed from the energy of thought.

HAVE ANY SPEAKERS EVER BEEN TOUGH WITH ME?

Yes, quite often. They do so, not for malice or anything other than to make me hear their words. Whenever I’ve allowed my own mind to complete a sentence, they often step in and tell me off for doing so. I’m asked to delete things that they know I made up from my own mind. our relationship has an understanding that spelling errors and other trivial things are not important at the moment. Recently, a speaker was referring to someone by name. I could not think how to spell it, with which the speaker immediately instructed me to ‘write it as it sounds and keep writing’. The name was SHAV ON, correctly spelt Siobhan! Who knew?

WHERE DOES MY SPIRIT-INSPIRED WRITING SIT ON THE SPECTRUM GRAPHIC (ABOVE)?

I would suggest its somewhere around the ‘altered state’ line. Sometimes I know it was deeper than others. I use a star system directly below the ‘Afterthoughts’ heading on the website, marking each session out of ten. Only I know what influence I had in the words, and I judge what were are weren’t words that I would have spoken with my own mind voice. It’s not an exact science and what some might believe to be a wonderful message, might fail to get high star rating from me. Others might judge a session as poor and with no main message, yet I’ve judge it with a high star rating. It is my experience and knowing that allows me to be the judge, and believe me, I am tough on myself!

HOW DID THE LANZAROTE SESSIONS COME ABOUT?

My partner and I are both retired. Our favourite holiday location has been Lanzarote for many years. We’ve visited the island dozens of times and since retiring have vowed to visit as many times each year as our health (and budget) allows. It was during one such trip that I took with me my new toy at the time, an Onxy Book tablet. For whatever reason, one day I sat with it and transcribed a message from the spirit world. I immediately knew this was the format I wanted to produce this work with. One the next trip to the island, I promised myself I would sit every day for a session with the device, connecting to the spirit world and writing what they wanted me to. It was, for me, hugely convenient and easy to record. Since then, it is now a part of my holiday experience every time. As I write this, the Lanzarote Sessions series 9 is about to begin, with series 10, 11 and 12, 13 already booked!

WHY DO I THINK LANZAROTE IS BETTER FOR THIS WORK?

There are a number of reasons. Firstly, Lanzarote is a very spiritual island, not that most visitors would care to notice. I feel at one with the place. The rugged volcanic landscapes, beautiful beaches, and the unpolluted skies and surroundings. I have always enjoyed deeper and more meaningful meditations there. Part of the reason might be because I am away from the busy schedules I always appear to have at home, even after retirement! I believe that the work I create on the island is richer than that at home.

DO I EVER FEEL I WANT TO TAKE A QUESTION TO THE SPIRIT SPEAKERS TO ANSWER?

Yes, but I have always allowed the speakers to talk about whatever they think is relevant for me, and the reader. I rarely ask a question of them, unless intended. There have been occasions where, although I’ve not directed a question at them directly, they have picked up on it from my mind store and chosen to answer it. Also, when I have received a question from a reader, they are only too willing to share an answer with me.

WHY DON’T I SPEND MORE TIME FINDING OUT ABOUT THEIR WORLD?

Because it has little or no value in my development and unfoldment. We’ll all discover the truth at some point, so why spend this life concerned about the next. Their world is so hard for us to interpret that describing it defies description that we could possibly understand. Let’s face it, living without a physical body sets confusions and issues, let alone trying to understand their world of personalities and thoughts! I don’t want to add an interpretation of their world that I cannot validate this side of life. Take Emanuel Swedenborg, Edward Cayce, and Maurice Barbanell as examples of great pioneers of this movement from times past. Each of them wrote their own interpretations of the spirit world through their respected connected guides. All of them are different! Silver Birch describes the spirit world entirely differently to what I believe it to be like. Who’s correct, who’s wrong?

WHY DO I PRESENT MY WORK ON A PUBLIC PLATFORM, SUCH AS THIS WEBSITE?

Well, you might not believe me, but the primary reason is for archiving and documentation purposes. I will die one day, as we all will, and I have decided that the work I’ve done over the many years of being a student of this work might, some day, benefit other like-minded students. I have never sought fame with my work with spirit and have long since retired from public performances. I don’t have as big a public ego as some other mediums thrive for. The only persons I seek to impress, are myself and my partner. As I write this, this website has taken 18 months to get to this stage. It is visited by a handful of visitors every week. Yet it has taken me probably thousands of hours work to get it to this stage. Why? Because it will be my legacy and acts as a documented record of my life working with spirit.

CAN ANYONE START SPIRIT-INSPIRED WRITING?

In the same way that anyone can learn a language or learn to drive a car, anyone can learn to write the messages from their higher source. Everyone that writes anything are already involved in inspired writing, that’s a given. To connect it with alternative sources of information other than the conscious mind may take some practice.

IF IT SO EASY, WHY AREN’T MORE PEOPLE DOING IT?

I’d put this down to a number of factors. One, today’s society seeks instant gratification for everything with the minimal of work. There are far more ‘granny’ message mediums than ever before because teachers tend to focus too much on this aspect of mediumship, for the first reason I mentioned. Mediums are not actively building a relationship with those in spirit working with them. Neither are they spending enough time to work on theirselves and their relationship with their higher self (higher spirit). The topic of philosophy is often overlooked as not being an important aspect of mediumship. Finally, though not the only reason not mentioned, people are basically lazier with their self development, claiming not to have time because of busy lifestyles, and focusing too much on fame and fortune when becoming a working medium. There are some of my generalistic reasons, but not exclusively to everyone. Some people are working on their unfoldment, which, by it’s nature, is not a publically known activity.

ISN’T THE PROBLEM THAT THIS FORM OF MEDIUMSHIP AVOIDS REAL SCRUTINY?

As I mentioned earlier in this article, it is very difficult for others to test the validity of the information, however, that should not be the reason for not undertaking spirit-inspired writing. The objective of this form of mediumship is to listen to what the spirit connected wishes to say, and documenting it by transcribing their words. This is not for the purpose of traditional style mediumship and receiving messages that cannot be validated, but for self-improvement, spirit relationship building, trust and confidence. It’s not for public performance purposes, it’s for ones own self unfoldment. The way I have presented my examples on this website allows my work to be tested and scrutinised as best as is possible. But that only works if I am entirely honest about the processes and reveal the results and evidence of my work.

ARE THERE TEACHERS TEACHING SPIRIT-INSPIRED WRITING?

Yes, but it is only one aspect of becoming a better medium. Really, students could teach themselves, once they’ve mastered the basics, which I’ve share many times on this website. Let me start you off now. Grab a piece of paper or notepad and a writing impliment now. With those restiing on your lap, close your eyes and offer a prayer to the Divine in your mind. Now say aloud in your mind what you are intending to do, which is to hear a very quick message from someone working with you in the spirit world. Ask them to help you and to make theirself louder than your normal mind. Sit now for a few moments with an inward focus, on your breathe or your body. After a few moments, pick up your pen and write whatever message comes to mind. By the way, the sensation will be exactly the same as if you were making it up, because you are! That is the end of the exercise and if you one of the very few people that will attempt the exercise, you’ve started! Well done.

WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE PEOPLE THAT WILL THINK I’M MAKING IT UP?

What’s it to do with them? To some extent, they are correct without knowing it. Everything that comes from your sub-conscious into your conscious presents itself as your own mind. It’s up to you to learning to recognise what originates from your daily mind, from what was planted there from another source. The best person to scrutinise your spirit-inspired writing is yourself. Be honest with yourself always. Scrutise what you write, but leave room for acceptance that some influence was active. It is your truth that matters and not the opinions of others.

DO I BELIEVE MY PUBLISHED WORK HOLDS ANY VALUE FOR TEACHING OTHER STUDENTS?

Absolutely. Spirit-inspired writing is like having a red batphone direct line for my personal growth. My work, hopefully, shows what source of information can be tapped into. I know I am a tough judge of my work and I have high expectations and demands. I’m 100% honest with it and am not scared to criticise or critique the work.

HOW DO I KNOW I’M NOT MAKING ALL THIS UP?

Because of the process I use to transcribe what my mind is hearing. I never know what is to be shared with me. I never knowingly make stuff up. Most of the times, sessions contain messages, information, phrases and words that I would not willingly, or knowingly use in my day-to-day writing. I have, at times, transcribed things that during research weeks later, have found to be accurate and that I simply could not have known. Being honest with myself is my most important aspect of this work. I know when I am ‘making something up’. Of course, the degree of depth of the mind’s enhancement during a session determines the quality of the work.

DO OTHER MEDIUMS PASS COMMENTS ON MY WORK?

This website has a support system whereby anyone can help finance the ongoing work and be rewarded by becoming a Spirited Talk Envoy which comes with some perks. As I write this, there are only a handful of Envoys that, with the exception of one, are experienced mediums. I listen, and respond to all of their comments and value their opinions. I believe they become Envoys because they believe in my work and its importance.

WILL I EVER STOP THIS WORK?

Honestly, I don’t know. On my horizon I can see no end to what I want to achieve before I become a speaker in the other world after this one! Time and energy are my enemies. I feel I want to say that as long as I have to take in air to live, I won’t stop. But honestly, who knows what might happen tomorrow to change today.

That just about wraps up this 2025 update. I’m sure there’ll be things I missed and some things I’ve overstated! If you’ve read this far, then you’ve shown yourself that you’re keen to learn and work on your own unfoldment. Well done, that is worthy of recognition. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. If you’re an Envoy, you can leave your comments, or examples of Spirit-inspired writing below.

"Most of our troubles come from ignorance, and from lack of knowledge of how we all should live together wisely, happily and contented, free from sickness, poverty and war. As ignorance is the root of most misfortunes which beset us, nothing is more important than the increase of knowledge, because this leads to wisdom, the source of happiness."
